I saw this guy perform on BBC Later… with Jools Holland and it blew me away. One which I liked a lot! 18 Hooton Tennis Club – Highest Point in Cliff TownīBC 6 Music has a lot to answer for with the catchy tunes from this band! Definitely worth a listen to especially P.O.W.E.R.F.U.L. They also returned and gave us a very personal record. They returned and brought Britpop back with them – quite typically a Coxon/Albarn album but what’s wrong with that? 17 The Libertines – Anthems for Doomed Youth Still good enough for my top 20 though! 16 Blur – The Magic Whip I loved, and I mean loved their EPs but this for me should have delivered more. I have to say that I was a little underwhelmed by this album. Post-Punk brilliance and another band that I only recently discovered. Reminds me of bands like The Fall and The Wedding Present. I literally discovered this album about 2 weeks ago and it is brilliant. Another contender for this years Mercury Prize and again perhaps should have won it. I probably should hate it but it’s in my top 20 – possibly a guilty pleasure?! 12 Ghostpoet – Shedding Skin I actually thought that I would hate this album and it turns out that it was one of my top listens this year. I love the punk intensity of this band their music just seems to speak to me. 9 Jamie XX – In ColourĪ beautiful album and the record that should have won the Mercury Prize in my opinion. I love The Prodigy everything about their sound is intense and in your face and that is exactly what this album does. This top 10 was really hard to decide on so I based it on album plays in the end and this was slightly lower than the others. 7 Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds – Chasing YesterdayĪmazingly not this high in many end of year lists, yet I love this record. They returned and brought back 1988 with them in this record. Plus my 2 year old son sings “Alright” and it makes me smile. Quite simply this album was going to be mandatory listening for 2015, and it was. 4 Kurt Vile – b’lieve i’m goin downĪmazingly not really listened to this artists material before but this record blew me away – especially single Pretty Pimpin 5 Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly No matter what genre of music you are into the psychedelic alt-pop from this band just penetrates your mind, body and soul. They returned with another classic album, very much in line with the style of Holy Fire. And to top it off I got to see and review them as well. Quite simply this album was my soundtrack to 2015. A change this year is that it is a top 65 as it just didn’t feel right to cut it off at 50! 1 Slaves – Are You Satisfied? So onto my list for this year, as always you can be fairly sure that my top 25 is actually my top 25 and probably in order as well, as for the rest I have tried to order it but that was a bit more difficult really. Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance? Saying that it was the same with Father John Misty’s album for a while so who knows it might grow on me. This year’s I don’t really get it has to go to Sufjan Stevens – Carrie & Lowell. So all the critics lists are out and as always there appears to be an obsession over certain artists. Oh and The Beatles are finally on Spotify – who saw that coming? Oh and I started buying physical formats of albums again – who saw that coming? You simply cannot beat djing the main Wolves Civic Stage.īang! has grown over the year and we are getting good numbers each month – we get to be a little bit more eclectic as opposed to sticking to the mainstream classics that you would get at Blast Off! The other nights at the Dog are equally as ace and continue to grow in popularity as well. So what has happened in the year since I last had something to say…īlast Off! has resurrected a couple of times – once for the millionth customer and then for the annual Christmas special, both nights were sold out and as great as ever. Quite believably it has been a year since I actually bothered to put something down, but you can always rely on me posting my favourite albums of the year… So it is that time of year again when I finally write something on my blog…
